Hi, most parts like the hood, rear fenders and the cabin are original plastic parts. The cab is slightly modified i and I have added details like front fenders, footsteps, battery box, driver seat, windows etc. The whole tractor is painted original Volvo BM red. Thanks for looking.
I have undertaken a project like this myself now, inspired by your build :) I am however a bit nervous when it comes to painting, it is kind of a "make it or break it" stage the way I see it.
I have started a "test" on the bonnet now (I use spray cans), with a layer of primer and then a layer of the red color. I would need at least another layer of red I guess. I am a bit unsure of whether I should use primer or not though.
My question, how did you get the glossy finish on your model? It looks so stunning!
Sorry for my late answer. Maybe you have aready finished the paint job... Anyway, I don't remember now exactly what I did on this model, but I think I just used a scotch brite-like cloth to rug up the plastic surface a bit and then applied the paint with an air brush. It can be a good idea to apply some primer first though. Tamiya's primer is very thin and will not fill in all the detail on the model as other spray can primers might do. Using a spray can intended for e.g. car repair can be risky as you will get a lot of paint... Be careful. Make sure humidity in the room is not too high and keep the plastic parts a little warm (50 C, you can carefylly heat them up under e.g a halogen lamp), and also de-grease all parts (detergent + water + let dry completely) before applying the paint and you will get a good result. It's ok :) I'm well on my way with the paint job, and so far so good! Looking at your wheels, what dimensions are they? I have a few sets that I intended to use, but I'm not too sure if it's a good idea to modify the body of the tractor, they are quite big.
Hi, The Britains 2654 is actually closer to 1/35 than 1/32, which makes most other wheels look too big. It will require quite a lot of work (body modifications) to fit bigger wheels, and I don't think it will look nice (realistic). I don't remember the wheel dimensions now, but I found that wheels from Claas Celtis fit perfect! In fact, to get better steering (not just the stiff original pivoting axle) and also front fenders, I took the complete front axle from the Celtis. Then I made new reduction hubs (which are very characteristic for Volvo) from some aluminum rod and glued them on the front wheels. For the rear wheels, I re-used the original rims (since the center part is also characteristic for older Volvo tractors). I had to fit an extra ring on them (from plastic pipe I think) to make it fit with the wider Celtis tires.
